This project involves the conversion of a tired 1970’s
gym into a dance studio. A black box or ‘performance gymnasium’
is placed centrally in the existing volume to allow circulation
and ‘stage entrances’ around the edge. Above, a service
gantry gives full control of lighting for the various uses of the
space: teaching, rehearsal and performance. The project was designed
and delivered on a fast-track contract over the summer vacation
to minimize disruption to the University curriculum.
