I believe that the new British Embassy in Sana'a successfully meets all the separate objectives. We now have an innovative and aesthetically pleasing building that incorporates modern British design excellence and traditional Yemeni elements and offers improved security, drawing on a wealth of experience in quality and innovation in Foreign and Commonwealth Office buildings around the world. In short, a building of which we can be immenselt proud.” Michael Gifford, British Ambassador, Sana’a January 2007

July 06: This project for an opening footbridge over the River Hull is linked to the proposed regeneration of the East Bank. The design draws inspiration from Hull's unique condition as a 'city on the edge' and from the natural drama of the site itself. The development of the form was guided by the metaphor of the bridge as a 'found-object', shaped by nature like a piece of driftwood or a whale-bone deposited by the sea in a foreign context. The bridge consists of two 'wings', one being the deck, the other the counterweight mast. Like the legs of a gymnast on the bar these two wings are always perfectly balanced. As the deck rises the counterweight mast rises with it, ensuring that the centre of gravity is always directly above the pier.

We had over 250 visitors over the course of the day; most of whom stayed for the evening lecture. The exhibition will move to London in 2007.

The design involves two main entrances courts with secondary access at mid level to accommodation, which includes reception, venue, restaurant, internet café, bookshop and offices.
